Registered Nurse - Stepdown Cardiac

Job Details

The Registered Nurse in the Stepdown Cardiac unit provides high-quality care for patients with cardiovascular conditions. The position involves a variety of responsibilities including patient assessment, critical thinking, and the management of cardiac-related therapies.

Core Responsibilities

• Monitor and manage patients in cardiac telemetry, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
• Perform sheath removal and manage post-cardiac procedures such as cardiac catheterizations.
• Administer and titrate cardiac drips as per established protocols.
• Provide care related to post-myocardial infarction and various cardiac conditions including CHF and ACS.
• Utilize equipment such as CPAP/BIPAP and manage non-invasive airway procedures.
• Participate in care coordination and communication using SBAR for effective patient hand-offs.
• Support unit operations and assist with special procedures including CABG and other cardiac surgeries.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a cardiac care environment is required.
• Traveler experience is preferred unless the candidate has over 24 months of direct cardiac experience.
• Proven proficiency in cardiac telemetry, post-cardiac care, and management of cardiac drips.
• Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS are mandatory.
• Ability to interpret dysrhythmias and manage associated challenges.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

• Experience in arterial line management and wound care, including use of wound vacs.
• Charge experience is beneficial for this role.

Shift and Scheduling

Shifts are primarily night shifts, consisting of 36 hours per week (3x12 hour shifts). Weekend shifts are required, with a flexible schedule that includes 4 weekends every 4 weeks. The nurse may be expected to float within the unit based on patient acuity and staffing needs.

Unit Orientation and Support

A comprehensive 24-hour orientation will be provided to familiarize the staff with unit protocols and systems, including medication administration and documentation practices using Pyxis and EPIC.

Work Environment

Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and will be required to report to work during catastrophic events or mass casualty situations.

Patient Population

The patient population will include those diagnosed with conditions such as Atrial Fibrillation, Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS), and other cardiovascular disorders requiring stepdown care.

Special Equipment Used

• EKGs, arterial lines, and various cardiac monitoring devices.
• Bladder scanners, chest tubes, and pacing wires.

Every candidate will undergo an EKG testing requirement prior to starting in this specialty role.
