Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Intermediate Intensive Care Unit. This fast-paced unit requires dedicated professionals to provide exceptional nursing care and support to patients with diverse medical and surgical needs.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required; first-time travelers will not be accepted.
• Certifications: Current ACLS, BLS, and NIH certification required.
• Skills: Proficiency in telemetry, IV starts, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, peripheral line care, non-invasive airway management, and post-cardiac catheterization care.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

• Experience: Charge nurse experience and wound care/wound vac management preferred.
• Certifications: NIHSS certification preferred.

Job Details

• Patient Ratios: Nurse-to-patient ratio of 4:1 in a unit averaging 24 patients.
• Contract Length: 20-week contracts available to accommodate the holiday season.
• Shifts: 12-hour night shifts from 18:45 to 07:15.
• RTO: A maximum of 7 days of RTO allowed for auto offers.
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend commitment is required.
• Floating: Some floating may be required to the Cardiac Telemetry unit with ratios that may reach 1:6 in Med/Surg assignments.

Patient Population

The Intermediate Intensive Care Unit primarily serves adult (18-65 years) and geriatric (65 years and older) patients, focusing on those requiring cardiac telemetry monitoring. The unit emphasizes care for patients with:

• Acutely decompensated heart failure
• New onset heart failure
• Pre and post-cardiac/interventional procedures
• Acute coronary syndrome
• Stable post-STEMI patients
• Patients needing high-flow nasal cannula or Bi-PAP

Scope of Care & Services

The registered nurse will deliver comprehensive care, including but not limited to:

• Continuous ECG and pulse oximetry monitoring
• Administration of medications and titration of vasoactive drugs
• Emotional support and education for patients and families
• Emergency procedures as outlined in hospital protocols

Unit Systems

The unit utilizes the following systems for efficient operations:

• PYXIS
• Epic Product Dimensions
• SBAR for communication

Orientation & Scheduling

Following hiring, a 36-hour orientation will be provided. Nurses will engage in self-scheduling based on unit needs.

Uniform Requirements

Please wear any combination of navy and white scrubs while on duty.

Additional Notes

Candidates must successfully pass EKG testing prior to starting in this specialty.
