Registered Nurse (RN) - Pulmonary Care Unit

Job Details

The Pulmonary Care Unit is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse with experience in a mixed acuity setting. The ideal candidate will join our team on a 12-hour night shift, working from 18:45 to 07:15.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to patients with diverse pulmonary conditions.
• Monitor and manage patients utilizing telemetry and other advanced care techniques.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, including IV starts, ventilator management, and the use of CPAP/BiPAP.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Float to similar units as required to meet patient care needs.
• Participate in the orientation of new staff as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum Years of Experience: 2 years of relevant experience.
• Traveler Experience: Accepts first-time travelers.
• Required Skills:
  • IV start
  • Ventilator management
  • Telemetry monitoring
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Certifications:
  • ACLS
  • BLS
• Preferred Certifications:
  • NIHSS

Patient Population

The unit primarily cares for patients with conditions such as:

• Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
• Pneumonia (PNA)
• Respiratory distress
• COVID-19
• Influenza (FLU)
• Pulmonary Embolism (PE)

Unit Details

Our unit operates at a higher acuity level compared to standard medical-surgical units. With a total of 48 beds, we have a robust support team including:

• An Admission/Discharge nurse
• Assistant Nurse Manager
• Vascular Access Team
• Rapid Response Team (RRT)
• Code Team
• Behavioral Health Team

Our model ensures that no nurse handles more than one ventilator patient at a time, addressing the complex needs of our patient population effectively.

Scheduling and Orientation

• Shift: Night shifts, 3x12 hours.
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend.
• Block Scheduling: Potential for block scheduling depending on unit needs.
• Unit Orientation: 24 hours of orientation provided.

Dress Code

Scrubs are not provided. Attire should be white or navy blue.

Additional Requirements

All candidates must successfully pass EKG testing prior to their start date for this specialty.
