Trauma Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

This position is for a Trauma Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) working in an Intermediate Care/Progressive Care Unit (IMC/PCU) setting. The RN will provide nursing care for multi-system-injured trauma patients and surgical patients within a multidisciplinary team approach.

Unit Information

• 25 Floor Beds
• 6 Step-Down Beds
• 6 Pediatric Beds (travelers will not be required to see pediatric patients)

The unit features a six-bed intermediate care stepdown area that provides a higher level of care for patients transitioning from intensive care.

Shift Details

• 3x12 or 4x12 Night Shifts from 7 PM to 7 AM
• Every other weekend availability required
• Floating between units may be necessary

Job Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to trauma and surgical patients.
• Maintain patient safety and comfort through effective management of care.
• Monitor vital signs and patient health status.
• Administer medications and facilitate procedures as necessary.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes.
• Participate in orientation and training as required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of registered nursing experience required.
• At least 1 year of experience in specialty (PCU, IMC, Trauma, Stepdown) preferred.
• First-time travelers accepted if they have experience in ICU or trauma care.
• Current RN license in West Virginia or a compact RN license.
• BLS and ACLS certifications required.
• TNCC preferred.
• Skills in IV starts, telemetry monitoring, and conscious sedation are necessary.

Additional Information

Orientation/start dates are held every other week on Thursday. The RN may have the opportunity to work on the floor only, which will be discussed during the interview. All candidates must complete a fit test prior to starting, and arrangements for the fit test are the responsibility of the candidate's agency.
