Registered Nurse (RN) - PCU

The position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing. The schedule consists of 3 twelve-hour night shifts, specifically from 18:45 to 07:15. The role involves working in a mixed acuity unit with both PCU and Medical-Surgical/Telemetry patients.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct patient care in a PCU setting, managing a target nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4 to 1:5, with the potential for 1:6 in extreme situations.
  • Care for patients with various conditions, including COPD, pneumonia, respiratory distress, COVID-19, influenza, and pulmonary embolisms.
  • Administer medications and treatments, including IV start, telemetry monitoring, and management of CPAP/BiPAP.
  • Monitor and interpret dysrhythmias, ensuring timely interventions as required.
  • Float to similar units as needed, based on patient care demands.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including a team lead, respiratory therapists, and an assistant nurse manager for support during shifts.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience is required.
  • Must have prior travel nursing experience.
  • Current certifications in ACLS and BLS are mandatory, while NIHSS certification is preferred.
  • Skills in starting IVs, caring for ventilator patients, and telemetry monitoring are essential.

Patient Population:

Unit Details:

  • The unit consists of 48 beds with a high patient acuity level.
  • Support resources available include an Admission/Discharge nurse, a Vascular Access Team, Rapid Response Team (RRT), a Code Team, and a Behavioral Health Team.
  • Orientation for new hires is 24 hours.

Scrubs:

White or navy blue scrubs are required, but are not provided.

Additional Information:

Employees must pass EKG testing prior to starting in this specialty role. RTO (requests for time off) is limited to a maximum of 7 days following booking, and any additional requests or call-offs may result in cancellations.
