Advantage Staffing Services is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for a full-time contract assignment supporting both the Pre-Operative and Post-Anesthesia Care Units at a community hospital in Artesia, New Mexico.

This position offers a consistent 40-hour, Monday-through-Friday schedule with required weekday and rotating weekend call. The selected nurse will provide safe, compassionate care to patients throughout the perioperative process, including pre-operative preparation and post-anesthesia recovery.

Schedule and Orientation
During orientation, the nurse will initially work approximately three days in Pre-Op from 5:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

PACU shifts are eight hours, with start times generally ranging from 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., depending on the surgical schedule.

On-Call Requirements
On-call participation is required and includes:

One weekday of call each week

One weekend approximately every five weeks

Weekend call begins Friday after scheduled cases and continues through Monday at 5:30 a.m.

When called in, the nurse may perform both Pre-Op and PACU responsibilities

Additional call-pay and callback details will be reviewed during the interview and offer process.

Department Overview
The Surgical Services Department includes:

Four Pre-Op rooms

Eight PACU bays

Four operating rooms

One endoscopy suite

Essential Responsibilities
Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualized nursing care using the nursing process

Prepare patients for surgery and procedures in the Pre-Op setting

Monitor and care for patients recovering from anesthesia in the PACU

Recognize changes in patient condition and respond promptly and appropriately

Perform direct patient care in accordance with established policies, procedures and professional nursing standards

Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately

Provide timely education to patients and their families regarding procedures, recovery and discharge instructions

Communicate effectively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nurses and other members of the healthcare team

Protect patient confidentiality, dignity and privacy

Demonstrate sound clinical judgment when addressing questionable findings or patient-care concerns

Support the orientation and training of new employees when requested

Assist team members and contribute to safe, efficient department operations

Cross-train and perform both Pre-Op and PACU responsibilities as needed

Participate in required weekday and rotating weekend call

Comply with all quality-management, risk-management, infection-prevention and safety requirements

Minimum Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

Associate degree or nursing diploma required

Minimum of one year of relevant RN experience

Current New Mexico RN license or multistate compact RN license

Current Basic Life Support certification

ACLS and PALS certification required or must be obtained within 90 days of employment

TNCC and ENPC preferred

Basic computer proficiency

Knowledge of the nursing process and its application in direct patient care

Ability to provide age-appropriate care and identify patient needs across applicable age groups

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced perioperative environment

Ability and willingness to perform both Pre-Op and PACU duties

Preferred Experience
Recent PACU, post-anesthesia recovery or critical-care nursing experience

Pre-Op experience

Experience caring for patients following surgical and endoscopy procedures

Experience with airway management, pain control and post-anesthesia complications

Previous on-call experience

Compensation
The travel compensation range is $55–$65 per hour all-inclusive, equivalent to approximately $2,200–$2,600 in weekly gross compensation based on 40 hours.

Travel compensation may consist of taxable hourly wages and eligible housing and meal stipends. Stipend eligibility depends on the clinician maintaining a qualifying tax home and meeting applicable travel requirements.

Physical and Working Conditions
This position involves regular direct patient contact and potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids and other occupational hazards. The nurse must be able to perform the physical functions customarily required in an acute-care perioperative nursing environment.
