Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supports and promotes organizational mission and values.
  • Delivers professional nursing care to patients in accordance with medical staff directives and hospital policies.
  • Completes all unit-specific competencies and requirements for critically ill patient care.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives within the practice area.
  • Ensures comprehensive and timely clinical documentation and care plans for all assigned patients.
  • Seeks and acts on feedback regarding practice.
  • Maintains knowledge of current practice standards as outlined by relevant nursing associations and state nurse practice acts.
  • Facilitates patient information communication for continuity and safe care during handoffs, rounds, and interactions with providers.
  • Ensures a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff following established protocols.
  • Implements resources and initiatives to enhance patient safety.
  • Encourages error reporting and adheres to safe practices under a Just Culture model.
  • Addresses issues through the appropriate chain of command.
  • Conducts hourly rounding in collaboration with Licensed Nursing Assistants (LNAs) on assigned patients.
  • Identifies and assists in the correction of patient care safety issues.
  • Recognizes and acknowledges excellent performance among colleagues.
  • Builds respectful relationships by proactively addressing concerns, suggestions, or compliments.
  • Collaborates across units and shifts to resolve conflicts promptly.
  • Consults with nurses from other departments to leverage expertise in various clinical areas.
  • Maintains a professional and positive demeanor under all circumstances.
  • Seeks opportunities to support all team members.
  • Demonstrates willingness to resolve tension within the unit by adjusting assignments or accepting admissions as needed.
  • Engages in shared governance consistent with the unit and organization’s philosophy.
  • Assists in identifying solutions to problems and conflicts.
  • Effectively delegates care and unit activities to nursing staff.
  • Participates in the planning, supervision, and instruction of other nurses and nursing assistants.
  • Collaborates with nursing students and their instructors.
  • Participates in peer review activities.
  • Ensures readiness for accreditation surveys.
  • Demonstrates commitment to organizational values and holds peers accountable.
  • Avoids unauthorized overtime and manages time off according to policy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned relevant to the role.

Job Requirements

  • 3 years of critical care experience preferred.
  • Assists with the insertion of Flow wire, Opsens, and IVUS, and demonstrates knowledge of contraindications and reversal for IV adenosine infusion.
  • Capable of safely administering procedural sedation and passing the annual sedation examination, documenting sedation according to policies.

Job Knowledge and Skills

  • Basic dysrhythmia knowledge preferred or to be acquired prior to orientation completion.
  • NHISS certification preferred or to be obtained prior to orientation completion.

Education and Experience

  • Current New Hampshire RN license required.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required (except for Pre-Admission Testing and Operating Room).
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training preferred or to be obtained prior to orientation completion.
  • Graduate of an approved nursing program preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience providing proficiency in the listed areas may substitute for the above educational and experience requirements.
