PACU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and experienced PACU Registered Nurse (RN) to provide high-quality care for patients in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit. The ideal candidate will have experience in a large hospital setting and be able to manage both pediatric and high-acuity patients.

Job Details

  • Unit Type: PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit)
  • Shift Length: 8 or 12 hours
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Years of Experience Required: Minimum of 2 years in PACU
  • Possible Rotations: Varied weekend rotation with occasional night shifts
  • Backup Call: Part of the staff rotation, possibly 2 weeknights/month and up to every 4th weekend
  • Travel Restrictions: Cannot accept travelers living within a 60-mile radius of the facility; local travel rates apply for those living 60 to 80 miles away

Responsibilities

The PACU RN will be responsible for the following:

  • Caring for patients recovering from various surgical procedures, including adults and pediatric patients
  • Monitoring patients post-operatively for any complications and managing their recovery
  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to provide optimal patient care
  • Utilizing Epic charting and AcuDose Medication Dispensing systems
  • Providing care for patients from diverse specialties including ICU, Cath Lab, Endoscopy, and Interventional Radiology

Required Qualifications

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Dakota
  • ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications (all AHA accredited)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a PACU setting
  • Experience in a large hospital setting with over 250 beds
  • Ability to care for high acuity and pediatric patients (average of 5 to 15 children per day)
  • Acute/hospital experience is essential; outpatient surgery center experience will not qualify

Equipment and Safety Standards

Familiarity with the following equipment is preferred:

  • Phillips monitors
  • Ventilators and BiPap machines

The nurse-to-patient ratio adheres to ASPAN standards of 1:1 or 2:1, ensuring personalized care for each patient.

Orientation and Training

The orientation program includes comprehensive basic hospital and unit training, alongside mentorship from a designated buddy RN on the unit to support a smooth transition into the role.

Dress Code

Hospital-provided scrubs are the required dress code for this position.
