PACU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • At least 1 year of recent PACU, post-anesthesia, or post-operative nursing experience
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
  • Successful completion of dysrhythmia testing
  • Experience caring for pediatric and gynecologic surgical patients
  • Ability to obtain a Vermont nursing license upon acceptance of the assignment, if not already licensed in Vermont
  • Cerner electronic medical record experience preferred
  • Strong patient assessment, prioritization, communication, and clinical judgment skills

PACU Registered Nurse Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients during the post-anesthesia recovery period
  • Monitor airway, breathing, circulation, neurological status, pain, nausea, and vital signs following surgery
  • Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition and post-operative complications
  • Care for adult, pediatric, and gynecologic surgical populations as assigned
  • Administer medications and therapies according to established protocols and provider orders
  • Complete accurate clinical documentation and communicate patient status during nursing handoffs
  • Collaborate with anesthesia, surgical, and perioperative teams to support safe patient transitions
  • Educate patients and families regarding recovery instructions, comfort measures, and discharge needs
