PACU Registered Nurse (RN)
Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced PACU Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in post-anesthesia care, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality care to patients in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU).
- Monitor patients post-surgery, ensuring a safe recovery from anesthesia.
- Assess patients' conditions, including vital signs and pain levels, while responding promptly to any changes.
- Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure the best patient outcomes.
- Administer medications and perform necessary interventions as needed.
- Educate patients and their families about post-operative care and recovery processes.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives within the department.
Requirements
- Current RN license and certification in the state of practice.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a PACU setting.
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS.
- Ability to understand and interpret cardiac rhythms.
- Experience with electronic medical record systems, preferably Cerner.
Shift Information
- 9-hour day shifts with a guaranteed 36 hours per week.
- Call approximately once every 2 weeks and every 6th weekend.
- Orientation period of 2-3 shifts.
Unit Information
- The PACU comprises 34 beds, focusing primarily on Phase 1 recovery, with training available for Phase 2.
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 2:1 in Phase 1.
- Common cases include robotic prostatectomy, total knee/hip replacements, robotic hysterectomies, and bariatric procedures.
- Nursing assistants are present in the department, with ratios of 2-3 CNAs available to assist.
- Patients recovering from ICU will not be in the PACU; they will go directly to the ICU unit.
Additional Information
- Staff may float to post-op or pre-op areas if trained.
- Scrubs are provided, and a respectable casual dress code is expected to and from work.
- Response time for call is within 1 hour.
