Job Summary:
Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse in a healthcare facility. This role involves providing specialized nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia following surgical and diagnostic procedures. The RN monitors patients closely during the immediate post-anesthesia period, manages pain and nausea, identifies complications, and ensures patient stability prior to transfer or discharge.
Job Details:
- Schedule: Days shift, 8 hours shifts, minimum of 40 hours per week
- Required Qualifications: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license, graduation from an accredited nursing program (BSN preferred), current BLS certification, ACLS certification typically required, PACU, ICU, critical-care, emergency department (ED), or perioperative nursing experience may be preferred depending on the facility, strong assessment, critical-thinking, communication, and emergency-response skills.
- Preferred Qualifications: Previous PACU or critical-care experience, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification when caring for pediatric patients, certification such as Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse (CPAN) or Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia Nurse (CAPA), experience with airway management, hemodynamic monitoring, and postoperative recovery.
- Additional Information: The RN is responsible for implementing and monitoring patient care plans, assessing patient conditions, and coordinating discharge planning needs. Critical thinking and decisive judgment are essential to manage patients in a stressful environment. The role requires following Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
