PACU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse license eligible for practice in Texas
  • At least 1 year of recent PACU, post-operative, critical care, or closely related nursing experience
  • Demonstrated ability to assess and monitor patients recovering from anesthesia
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, patient-safety, and post-operative nursing skills
  • Ability to work on-site and complete required assignment orientation and compliance requirements

PACU RN Responsibilities

  • Receive and assess patients transitioning from the operating room or procedural areas
  • Monitor airway status, vital signs, level of consciousness, pain, nausea, and surgical-site concerns
  • Recognize and respond promptly to post-anesthesia complications and changes in patient condition
  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with provider orders and nursing standards
  • Provide thorough patient assessments, documentation, and ongoing reassessments throughout recovery
  • Coordinate safe handoffs and determine readiness for discharge or transfer to the next level of care
  • Collaborate with anesthesia providers, surgeons, nurses, and interdisciplinary care teams
  • Educate patients and families regarding recovery instructions and ongoing care needs
