Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN)

An exciting opportunity exists for a skilled Operating Room Registered Nurse to join our dynamic team. This role involves providing high-quality patient care in a fast-paced surgical environment.

Job Responsibilities

• Circulate surgery cases and prepare for surgical procedures.
• Work collaboratively from a preference card system to ensure efficient room turnover.
• Set up, clean, and turnover operating rooms effectively.
• Demonstrate excellent organizational and note-taking skills.
• Participate in various surgical specialties including general, OB/GYN, urology, orthopedics, podiatry, ENT, cardiovascular, and bariatrics.

Equipment Utilization

• Utilize computer charting through the Epic system and manage medications via the Pyxis system.
• Handle a variety of surgical equipment, including arthroscopic pumps, shavers, cautery machines, lasers, fracture tables, and c-arm x-ray equipment.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 2 years of experience in the Operating Room is required.
• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in South Dakota.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is preferred.

Shift Information

• Full-time position with 8-hour shifts.
• Participate in a rotating on-call rotation 1-2 days per week and every 2nd-4th weekend.
• Holiday shifts will be rotated among staff.

Floating Requirements

May have the opportunity to float within the peri-operative department, which could include pre-operative, post-operative, and outpatient services such as infusions and dressing changes, as well as the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU).

Unit Capacity and Nurse to Patient Ratio

• 4 Operating Room Suites and 1 Procedure Room.
• 8 PACU Bays and 18 Patient Center Rooms.
• Nurse to patient ratio is 1:1 in the OR and ranges from 1:1 to 4 in the Patient Center; 2:1 in the PACU based on patient needs and care levels.

Training and Orientation

Upon hire, there will be an initial department orientation to familiarize staff with the layout and processes of the department, alongside a comprehensive hospital orientation. Further training will include hands-on experience with equipment and supplies relevant to the role.
