Absolute Minimum Qualifications & Departmental Hardstops:

- Experience Baseline: Minimum 1–2+ years of dedicated Operating Room (OR) circulating RN experience in an acute care facility.
- Core Certifications Required:
- Active AHA BLS
- Active AHA ACLS(CNOR certification preferred)
- On-Call Commitment: Must agree to mandatory weekday call shifts and rotating weekend call coverage.
- Surgical Competency: Demonstrated proficiency circulating across general surgery, orthopedics, gynecology, urology, and vascular procedures.
Job Summary & Clinical Scope
A hospital in Elmira, NY is seeking an experienced, adaptable Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN OR) for a 13-week day assignment in the Operating Room (Department 7040). Operating as the primary circulator, the RN will direct intraoperative nursing care, advocate for patient safety, oversee sterile field maintenance, and coordinate surgical team communications.
- Intraoperative Patient Care: Perform pre-operative surgical safety checklists, verify consent/site marking, conduct intraoperative "Time-Out" huddles, and position patients safely to prevent nerve or tissue damage.
- Circulating & Sterile Field Governance: Manage surgical suite equipment, verify sterility, direct scrub personnel, and perform precise instrument, sponge, and needle counts before, during, and after surgical cases.
- Specimen & Medication Handling: Transfer medications safely onto the sterile field, label and log pathology specimens correctly, and maintain accurate perioperative charting in the electronic health record.
- Emergency & On-Call Coverage: Respond to surgical emergencies during scheduled shifts and required weekday/weekend call assignments.
