Registered Nurse - Operating Room

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our Operating Room team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in perioperative care and will provide safe, age-appropriate care to a diverse patient population, including pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. This position plays a critical role in supporting advanced surgical techniques and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality nursing care in the Operating Room.
  • Function as a member of the patient care team, serving as a resource for patients and their families.
  • Participate in various surgical procedures, ensuring safety and efficacy.
  • Maintain proficiency in performing trauma, ENT, colorectal, plastics, neurosurgery, surgical oncology, and other surgical interventions.
  • Collaborate with the surgical team to implement evidence-based practices and advanced technology.

Schedule

  • Full-time position with a shift of 5 days per week, 8-hour shifts from 11:00 AM to 7:30 PM.
  • Every other weekend is required.
  • On-call requirements include one on-call shift per week and two 8-hour weekend shifts every six weeks.

Time Off Requirements

  • A maximum of 14 days or less of requests for time off (RTO) will be auto-approved.
  • RTO is not permitted on hard-to-fill days such as holidays and special observances.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of Operating Room experience required.
  • Experience working in a Level II trauma environment is essential; Level I trauma experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in a variety of surgical disciplines is required, including thoracic, ENT, endoscopic, gynecology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, and trauma.
  • Experience with emergency OR response, fire safety, malignant hyperthermia, and latex allergy precautions is necessary.
  • Certifications: BLS is required; 16-hour Maryland-approved trauma course and 8 hours of annual trauma CEUs are required; ACLS, NIH, and PALS are preferred.

Additional Information

  • All clinicians may float within their scope as needed based on facility requirements.
  • Charting system utilized will be Cerner/Surginet.
  • Scrubs will be provided for the position.
