Operating Room Registered Nurse Requirements

  • At least 18 months of Registered Nurse experience
  • Operating room or perioperative nursing experience preferred
  • Associate degree or bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of nursing
  • Active Montana Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Ability to work variable shifts, take call, and perform effectively in a busy, high-pressure operating room environment
  • Preferred: Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification
  • Preferred: At least 1 year of operating room circulating experience
  • Preferred: At least 1 year of operating room scrub experience

Perioperative Nursing Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, compassionate, and evidence-based nursing care to surgical patients throughout the perioperative experience
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and identify diagnoses, clinical concerns, and individualized care needs
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care
  • Support operating room procedures in circulating and scrub capacities according to competency and assignment
  • Promote patient safety, infection prevention, and a safe surgical environment
  • Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesia professionals, nursing staff, patients, families, and other members of the care team
  • Provide patient and family education and maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Follow applicable policies, procedures, protocols, professional standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and maintain current clinical knowledge
  • Follow required protocols related to the care of patients with hyperacute and acute stroke, including designated stroke education
