Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN)

Position Overview

The Operating Room Registered Nurse plays a critical role in providing high-quality care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. This position requires skilled nursing professionals who can handle the dynamic and fast-paced environment of a busy surgical unit within a level-one trauma center.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and assist with surgical procedures while ensuring patient safety and comfort.
  • Circulate and scrub for various surgical specialties, including Trauma, Transplant, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, ENT, GU-GYN, and Robotics.
  • Work collaboratively with a diverse surgical team to deliver exceptional patient care.
  • Maintain a sterile field, adhere to infection control protocols, and utilize advanced surgical technology.
  • Float between similar units and respond to facility needs as required.

Shift Details

  • Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts per week.
  • On-call requirement: Up to four call shifts every four weeks.
  • Weekend requirement: Available for one working weekend shift every four weeks.
  • Holidays: Required to work at least one holiday period.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience preferred; first-time travelers are accepted.
  • Current Registered Nurse license from South Carolina or a Multi-State Compact RN license is required.
  • Certifications: Current BLS certification required. A radiation badge will be provided by the agency.
  • Experience in a Level 1 trauma center preferred, with scrub experience strongly desired.

Miscellaneous Information

  • Location radius for travelers is 60 miles.
  • Local candidates may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • All requested time off must be included at the time of submission; approval based on facility needs.

Additional Notes

During hurricane season (June through November), all staff may be assigned to emergency response teams, so candidates should be aware of this requirement.

The main operating room is part of an academic trauma center with 21 operating rooms covering diverse surgical specialties. The department is a Magnet-designated unit that emphasizes cutting-edge technology and nursing excellence.

Charting System

Charting is completed using the EPIC system.
