Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN)
Position Overview
The Operating Room Registered Nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care before, during, and after surgical procedures within a dynamic level-one trauma center. This role requires proficiency in both scrubbing and circulating surgical procedures across multiple specialties, including Trauma, Transplant, Orthopedic, Neurological, ENT, GU-GYN, and Robotics.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage patient care activities in the operating room, ensuring the safety and comfort of patients.
- Coordinate with surgical teams to provide assistance during surgical procedures.
- Prepare and maintain operating room supplies and equipment, ensuring all tools are appropriately sterilized and ready for use.
- Document all procedures accurately in the electronic health record system.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to address patient needs and enhance care delivery.
- Monitor patients' vital signs and make necessary adjustments during surgical operations.
- Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Shift and Schedule
- Work schedule consists of 3 twelve-hour shifts, from 10:30 AM to 11:00 PM.
- Required to participate in on-call shifts on weekends, with a limit of two shifts per four-week scheduling period.
- Availability to work at least one holiday period each year, including Christmas and New Year’s.
- May be required to float within scope to meet facility needs.
Qualifications
- Minimum of two years of nursing experience preferred, with a strong emphasis on operating room settings.
- Valid South Carolina or Multi-State/Compact Registered Nurse license required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Experience in a Level 1 trauma center is strongly preferred.
- Experience with scrubbing surgical procedures is highly desirable.
Additional Information
- Nursing teams consist of approximately 75% Registered Nurses and 25% Certified Surgical Technologists.
- Charting is conducted using the EPIC system.
- Parking arrangements include a registration fee for obtaining a hang tag for garage use, with additional fees applicable for parking outside designated areas.
- During hurricane season (June to November), employees may be assigned to emergency response teams as necessary.
