Registered Nurse – Operating Room (Neurology Surgery)

Schedule / Job Type
Contract | Days | 10-hour shifts, 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM | Call shifts 3:30 PM – 7:00 AM | Weekend rotation approximately once per month | Holiday call required | 1–2 call nights per week
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as RN circulator in a Neurology Surgery OR environment handling approximately 200 neuro surgical cases per month across 4 OR suites
- Assist with a wide range of neurology surgery cases including spinal fusions and craniotomies, as well as other neuro OR procedures
- Collaborate with OR technicians, charge nurses, and house supervisors to ensure safe and efficient surgical care
- Document patient care accurately using EPIC Optime EMR
- Participate in call coverage including weeknight and weekend on-call rotations as assigned
- Adhere to a drug-free campus policy, including a negative drug screen for all panels prior to start
Required Qualifications
- Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
- BLS certification required
- Minimum 1 year of experience in Neurology OR cases, including spinal fusions and craniotomies — no exceptions
- Must be well-rounded across all neuro OR case types, not limited to spine and craniotomies
- Must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for standard contract rates
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience working in a high-volume neurology surgery environment
- Familiarity with EPIC Optime or similar OR-specific EMR platforms
- Comfort working alongside OR scrub technicians in a team-based surgical setting
