The unit has 11 suites, staffing 6-7 suites daily. The number of cases per day ranges from 15-30. Candidates must be certified in ACLS, BLS, and PALS. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:1. The electronic medical record system used is Cerner and Surginet. A Charge Nurse oversees assignments for the following day. Certified surgical techs are available. Call requirement includes 3 weekday evening/night shifts and 3 weekend shifts every 6-week schedule. Common types of cases include orthopedic, neurological, and general surgeries, but do not include transplants. Scrubbing is required for this position. The equipment used includes Sterad, Steris 1, washer disinfection, and steam disinfection. Duties include decontamination, cleaning packaging, and sterile processing. Rotating holidays will be expected. The shift typically operates Monday through Friday with varying start times for additional shifts as needed.
