Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) Registered Nurse for a 13-week contract assignment at MVHS-Wynn in Utica, New York. This role involves providing specialized nursing care to adult patients undergoing complex cardiovascular surgical procedures.
The CVOR unit features 2 operating suites, maintaining a 1:1 nurse-to-patient ratio. Common patient diagnoses include Coronary Artery Disease (CAD), Aortic Stenosis (AS), and Mitral Regurgitation (MR). The successful candidate will be an integral part of a dedicated surgical team, ensuring optimal patient outcomes through expert clinical care and collaboration.
This position requires a commitment to patient safety and adherence to high standards of care within a dynamic surgical environment. Flexibility to float to other units if census is low is also a requirement.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct, specialized nursing care to adult patients in the Cardiovascular Operating Room.
- Assist surgeons and the surgical team during complex cardiovascular procedures, ensuring patient safety and optimal surgical outcomes.
- Prepare and maintain a sterile environment, including setting up surgical instruments and equipment.
- Monitor patient's physiological status, vital signs, and administer medications as prescribed during the perioperative phase.
- Perform accurate and timely documentation of patient care, interventions, and outcomes using the EPIC Electronic Health Record system.
- Manage medication dispensing and inventory through the Omnicell system.
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary team members, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Respond to emergent situations with critical thinking and appropriate interventions.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards, including floating to other units as needed based on census requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's Degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
- Minimum of one (1) year of recent experience as a Registered Nurse in a Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) setting.

Shift Details
- Shift Type: Day shifts, typically starting around 6:30 AM.
- Shift Duration: 8 hours per shift.
- Days per Week: 5 days per week.
- On-Call Requirements: Minimum of 7 days per month, including 1 weekend per month.
- Contract Length: 13 weeks.
- Assignment Dates: September 21, 2026, to December 19, 2026.
Licensing Requirements
- Current and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New York.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
