Experience: 1 year of acute care surgical experience preferred.
License: Current RN License in the respective state or multistate compact RN License.
Certifications: Current Basic Life Support certification issued by the American Heart Association.
Must-Have:
- Experience in stepdown/PCU and transplant preferred.
- Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures.
- Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to address cultural and language needs of patients and visitors.
- Some computer skills.
Description:
Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex.
Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients.
Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments.
Notes all changes in physician orders on assigned patients.
Assists physician in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment.
Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients.
Observes physiological manifestations of patients and intervenes when necessary.
Administers medication as prescribed.
Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products.
Delivers patient care competently.
Interacts with family and patients in sharing care plans while in the hospital and at discharge time.
Informs patients and families of hospital procedures.
Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
Delegates tasks to support staff.
Performs other duties as assigned.
The unit cares for post-surgical kidney, liver, and pancreas transplant patients.
It also cares for pre-transplant patients evaluated during their inpatient stay.
Patients require close monitoring for infection, rejection, and timely medication delivery.
This position is not in PACU.
Any nurse may work in either medical/surgical or stepdown based on availability and acuity.
Preceptor and charge experience preferred.
