Experience: Minimum of 1 year in acute care surgical floor. Stepdown/PCU experience preferred. Transplant experience preferred.
License: Current RN License issued by the state board of nursing or a current multistate compact RN License.
Certifications: Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association.
Must-Have:
- Requires knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures.
- Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors.
- Some computer skills required.
Description:
Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex.
Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients.
Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments.
Notes all changes in physician orders on assigned patients.
Assists physicians in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatments.
Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients, observes physiological manifestations, and intervenes when necessary.
Administers medication as prescribed.
Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products.
Delivers patient care competently.
Interacts with family and patients in sharing care plans while in the hospital and during discharge.
Informs patients and families of hospital procedures.
Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
Delegates tasks to support staff.
Performs other duties as assigned.
The unit cares for post-surgical kidney, liver, and pancreas transplant patients.
Patients require close monitoring for infection, rejection, and timely medication delivery.
This is not a PACU position.
Nurses will either work on the medical/surgical or stepdown unit, depending on the availability of staff.
Preceptor and charge experience preferred.
