Job Summary
This role is for an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) in a dynamic hospital setting located in Hilo, Hawaii. The facility features 6 OR suites, including one dedicated to C-sections, with 4 to 6 rooms running simultaneously daily. This is a fast-paced and efficient environment where the OR RN will primarily function as a circulator, supporting a wide range of surgical procedures.
The ideal candidate will join a busy surgical team, providing high-quality patient care across diverse specialties. This position offers the opportunity to work with patient populations undergoing general, orthopedic, vascular, ophthalmic, urology, ENT, endoscopy, robotic, obstetrics, and gynecology procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently circulate a variety of surgical cases.
- Assist with operating room turnover and cleaning procedures.
- Transport patients to and from the operating room as needed.
- Schedule surgical cases efficiently.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2-3 years of recent experience circulating cases in an acute hospital operating room setting.
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to scrub surgical cases.
Skills & Competencies
- Proficiency in circulating a broad range of surgical procedures including General, Orthopedic, Vascular, Ophthalmic, Urology, ENT, Endoscopy, Robotic, Obstetrics, and Gynecology.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems such as EPIC, Pyxis, and Provation.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to adapt to variable shift assignments and a fast-paced environment.
Shift Details
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Start Date: October 12, 2026
- Shift Type: Day Shift (AM)
- Shift Duration: 12 hours
- Days Per Week: 3 days per week, totaling 36 hours, with potential for up to 40 hours based on department needs.
- Typical Shift Hours: 6:45 AM - 6:45 PM.
- Department Operating Hours: Monday through Friday, 6:45 AM to 11:15 PM. Traveler shifts may be variable based on departmental needs.
- Call Requirements: Mandatory call coverage 24/7, typically 1-2 times per week and up to 2 weekends per month. Must reside within a 30-minute radius of the hospital for call-back.
- Orientation: Up to 1 week on day shift, subject to manager's discretion.
- Contract Completion: Minimum of 39 shifts required during the contract duration if Requested Time Off (RTO) is approved.
Licensing Requirements
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Hawaii.
