Job Summary
Join Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital (NVRH), a 25-bed independent, nonprofit Critical Access Hospital located in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. This travel assignment offers a unique opportunity to provide comprehensive nursing care within a close-knit community setting, serving the diverse healthcare needs of Vermont's Northeast Kingdom.
As a Medical/Surgical Travel RN, you will primarily care for adult patients with a broad scope of needs, including medical, surgical, observation, swing bed, and outpatient care. While the unit is not dedicated to pediatrics, occasional pediatric patients may be admitted, requiring a versatile skillset.
You will coordinate and deliver exceptional patient care, utilizing the full breadth of your clinical expertise and decision-making skills. This role emphasizes professional autonomy and collaboration with a dedicated interdisciplinary team, allowing you to make a meaningful impact every shift.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver comprehensive patient care for a diverse population, primarily adult medical/surgical patients, with occasional pediatric admissions.
- Utilize the Nursing Process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation) to meet the physiological, psychosocial, spiritual, and developmental needs of patients across the lifespan.
- Collaborate effectively with providers, nursing leadership, and support staff to ensure safe, compassionate, and high-quality patient outcomes.
- Function as a Charge Nurse as needed, demonstrating leadership and clinical expertise.
- Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of patient care.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of recent acute care Registered Nurse (RN) experience.
- Current Vermont RN license or Compact Multi-State RN License.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Flu vaccination required (no exceptions).
- Personal transportation is necessary due to the rural location and lack of public transportation.
- Must be able to care for primarily adult medical/surgical patients with occasional pediatric patients; pediatric-only RNs will not be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior Charge RN experience.
- Experience with Meditech Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.

Shift Details
- Shift Type: Flexible Day/Night rotation, with a primary need for Night shifts.
- Shift Duration: 12 hours (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM).
- Days per Week: 3 days per week.
- Contract Length: 13 weeks.
- Start Date: September 2, 2026.
