Job Summary
Join a dedicated team at a 25-bed independent, non-profit Critical Access Hospital located in St Johnsbury, Vermont. This facility is a cornerstone of healthcare in Vermont's historic Northeast Kingdom, providing essential primary, preventive, surgical, specialty, inpatient, outpatient, and 24-hour emergency services to a rural community known for its natural beauty and recreational opportunities.
As a Registered Nurse on the general Medical Surgical unit, you will be instrumental in coordinating comprehensive patient care for a diverse population, primarily adults with occasional pediatric patients. The unit encompasses medical, surgical, outpatient, observation, and swing bed services, ensuring a broad scope of practice and continuous learning opportunities.
This role requires a commitment to holistic care, addressing the age, physiological, spiritual, psychosocial, and developmental needs of all patients with compassion and proficiency. You will collaborate closely with a talented team, utilizing the Nursing Process to make critical decisions and ensure exceptional patient outcomes under the guidance of the Unit Director and Nursing Supervisors.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver exceptional patient care for adult and occasional pediatric patients within a general Medical Surgical unit.
- Provide comprehensive care across various service lines including medical, surgical, outpatient, observation, and swing bed.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary healthcare professionals to meet the unique needs of a diverse patient population.
- Utilize the Nursing Process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, making critical clinical decisions.
- Ensure holistic patient care, addressing age-specific, physiological, spiritual, psychosocial, and developmental needs with compassion and proficiency.
- Work cooperatively with the Clinical Nurse Lead and/or Nursing Supervisor, and be accountable to the Unit Director.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of three (3) years of acute care experience.
- Demonstrated ability to provide care for both adult and occasional pediatric patients.
- Required to receive an annual influenza vaccination, no exceptions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Meditech electronic health record system.
Skills & Competencies
- Proficiency in comprehensive medical, surgical, outpatient, observation, swing bed, and pediatric patient care.
- Strong application of the Nursing Process in clinical decision-making.
- Excellent collaborative and communication skills within a multidisciplinary team.

Licensing Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Vermont or a valid multi-state compact RN license.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
