Job Summary
Join a dedicated team as a Registered Nurse in a 25-bed, independent, nonprofit critical access hospital located in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. This role offers the opportunity to provide comprehensive patient care within a dynamic general Medical-Surgical unit, serving both adult and occasional pediatric patients. The hospital is a cornerstone of healthcare in Vermont's scenic Northeast Kingdom, known for its commitment to primary, preventive, surgical, specialty, inpatient, outpatient, and 24/7 emergency services.
As a key member of the nursing staff, you will coordinate exceptional patient care, utilizing the innovative Nursing Process to make critical decisions across various care settings including medical, surgical, outpatient, observation, and swing bed services. The focus is on holistic care, ensuring that patients' age, physiological, spiritual, psychosocial, and developmental needs are met with compassion and proficiency.
You will work collaboratively with a talented group of professionals, reporting to the Unit Director and closely with the Clinical Nurse Lead and/or Nursing Supervisor during your shift. This position is ideal for an experienced RN seeking a fulfilling role in a supportive rural community environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver exceptional patient care for adult and occasional pediatric patients.
- Provide comprehensive medical, surgical, outpatient, observation, and swing bed care.
- Apply the Nursing Process effectively for critical decision-making and care planning.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team, including Clinical Nurse Leads and Nursing Supervisors.
- Ensure holistic patient care, addressing age-specific, physiological, spiritual, psychosocial, and developmental needs.
- Maintain accountability for patient outcomes and adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of acute care experience.
- Ability to provide care for both adult and occasional pediatric patients in a general Medical-Surgical setting. (Note: This is not a pediatric-only role.)
- Reliable personal transportation is essential due to the rural location and lack of public transportation/rideshare services.
- Willingness to work in St. Johnsbury, Vermont.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Meditech electronic health record system.

Licensing Requirements
- Current Vermont Registered Nurse (RN) license or compact multi-state RN licensure.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Annual Flu Shot is required, no exceptions.
