Float Assignment: Dedicated Float Pool assignment servicing 11 distinct Hematology, Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT), Research, and Palliative units across the BWH main campus and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) integrated floors.
Guaranteed Hours: 36 Hours Per Week
Absolute Minimum Qualifications & Departmental Hardstops:
- Licensure Mandate: Active, unencumbered Massachusetts State RN License held in hand at time of submission.
- Experience Baseline: Minimum 2+ years of dedicated inpatient Hematology, Medical Oncology, and/or Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) RN experience in an NCI-designated or high-acuity academic medical center.
- Mandatory Certifications:
- Active AHA BLS
- Active ONS / ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Administration Certificate (Strictly required for chemo administration across units).
- Float Mandate & Agility: Candidate must explicitly commit to floating across all 11 designated oncology and BMT units (including Dana-Farber integrated units).
Job Summary & Clinical Scope
A Hospital in Boston, MA is seeking four highly clinical, adaptable Hematology / Oncology Float Pool Registered Nurses (RN Oncology) for 13-week night-shift assignments in the Hem/Onc Float Pool Staff (Department BW4311 / SO00001876). Operating within MGB’s premier flagship academic medical center, the RN will float dynamically across specialized inpatient oncology units to deliver complex antineoplastic therapies, bio-chemotherapy, blood product support, and palliative symptom management.
- Chemotherapy & Immunotherapy Execution: Safely prepare, verify, administer, and dispose of complex chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted biotherapy regimens per ONS guidelines; manage acute hypersensitivity or anaphylactic reactions.
- Hematology & Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Care: Direct acute care for autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplant recipients, monitor for Graft-versus-Host Disease (GvHD), manage severe neutropenic fever, nadir phase complications, and central venous access devices (PICC, Hickman, Port-a-Cath).
- Palliative & Symptom Governance: Deliver comprehensive pain and symptom management, continuous IV analgesic titrations, end-of-life palliative care, and oncology-related surgical/medical care.
- Unit Float Operations: Float flexibly to designated units including:
