Facility: Advocate Trinity Hospital
Location: Chicago, IL
Department: Outpatient Infusion / Oncology
Shift: 8-Hour Days – 40 hrs/week
Contract: 89 weeks

Facility Information

• 205 beds
• Level II NICU
• No trauma designation
• Outpatient infusion unit located in the Same Day Surgery area
• Unit: 5 infusion chairs

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year outpatient infusion/oncology experience
• First-time travelers accepted
• BLS required
• ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Certification required

Patient Population

• Adults only
• Oncology patients
• Long-term IV antibiotics
• Injections
• Blood and platelet infusions
• Chemotherapy patients

Required Skills

• Chemotherapy administration
• Peripheral IV insertion
• Port-a-Cath access
• PICC line access
• Drawing blood from ports for laboratory testing
• Strong assessment skills
• Ability to recognize adverse reactions
• Must be comfortable administering chemotherapy

Patient Volume

• Approximately 10 patients/day
• No chemotherapy patients after approximately 2:00 PM

Department Support

• Clinic lead shared between Trinity and South Suburban Hospital
• Schedulers
• Oncologist available on-site at the hospital
• Hospitalist/ED physician available for rapid response
• One additional infusion RN

Technology

• EMR: Epic preferred, but not required
• IV Pumps: Alaris
• Medication Dispensing: Pyxis

Floating

May float between the three Advocate infusion centers:

• Trinity
• South Suburban
• Christ

Scheduling

• Monday–Friday
• 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
• Clinic closes at 3:30 PM, but RN may stay later to complete infusions
• No weekends
• No call
• Closed on major holidays
• Up to 7 days RTO may be approved

Orientation

• General facility orientation
• 1 unit orientation shift to learn department workflow
