Description:
The unit has 27 beds, consisting of 13 private and 14 semi-private rooms.
The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4 for telemetry patients and 1:5 for MedSurg patients.
In a mixed team of MedSurg and Telemetry, the ratio remains 1:4.
Common diagnoses include acute and chronic medical conditions, as well as post-surgical patients including total joints, urology, gynecology, podiatry, and general surgery.
Experience with potential stroke patients is preferred.
Nurses are not required to titrate drips but will manage heparin drips.
There are no cardiac drips on this unit.
Telemetry monitors are remote, and nurses are required to read, interpret, and sign off on strips.
Charge nurses and nurse managers are present to support each shift.
Charge nurses may take an assignment during unexpected incidents to accommodate patient care needs.
CNA ratios are based on census.
RT equipment includes CPAP and BiPAP but does not include vents.
Shifts are from 7 AM to 7:30 PM and 7 PM to 7:30 AM.
Every shift begins with a huddle at 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM.
Weekend requirements consist of four weekend shifts within a four-week schedule.
Holiday requirements include one major and one minor holiday.
There is no call requirement, but staff may be placed on standby for low census situations.
Traveling staff members are the first to float, with the possibility of floating to any MedSurg Tele unit and ICU for MedSurg Tele patients.
The dress code requires navy blue scrubs, and specific guidelines are outlined for undershirts and jackets.
There is a unit-specific orientation involving 1-2 shifts with a preceptor.
The cancellation policy allows for the cancellation of up to four shifts during the assignment period.
The charting system used is Cerner.
A BSN is not required for this position.
