A team lead nurse is also present without a patient assignment to assist with double checks, high alert drugs, procedures, transporting patients, etc.

Administer chemotherapy, blood components, fluid and electrolyte replacements, and oncology treatments. Assess patient conditions and manage side effects. Offer emotional support to patients and their families. Display appropriate prioritization skills in a fast-paced setting. Inpatient Hematology Oncology includes a 16-bed unit. Most Hematology Oncology patients remain in a 3:1 (patients to nurse) ratio. If there are medical/surgical patients on the unit, this may fluctuate to 4:1. A charge nurse is present without a patient assignment for every shift. A team lead nurse is also present without a patient assignment to assist with double checks, high alert drugs, procedures, transporting patients, etc. Nursing Care Partners provide nursing assistant tasks.
