Job Title: Nurse Navigator Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Oncology Clinic Duration: 14 Weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required License: Must hold a current DC nursing license Certifications: BLS required Must-Have: - DC license in hand for submission - Completed a minimum of 1 travel assignment - Proficient in Cerner charting system Description: Nurse Navigator role available for registered nurses. The position involves coordinating patient care primarily for cancer patients. Responsibilities include education, skincare/wound care, assessment of radiation toxicity, and addressing social needs. Nurse navigators will consult with the appropriate channels for any signs or symptoms of concern. Skills required include care and management of ports, central line/implanted line care, starting IVs, and managing acute tumor lysis syndrome. Additional skills needed include managing anaphylaxis, extravasation injury, hemorrhage, sepsis, spinal cord compression, and neutropenic precautions. Wound care and assessment of altered mental status, constipation/diarrhea, dysphagia, edema, nausea/vomiting, and neuropathy are also important. The role entails chart preparation, disability form management, and pharmacy calls, as well as telephone triage. Clienttion treatment center patients report Monday through Friday for therapy, necessitating care from nurse navigators. The facility mandates that all employees receive the flu vaccine.
