Description:
The unit specializes in medical oncology with progressive care beds and pediatric patients.
It has a high acuity level and a small number of med-surg patients.
On the unit, patient diagnoses include solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology.
The unit is a 36-bed telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to PCU level of care.
Pediatric patients are cared for rarely and will likely be cared for by permanent staff.
Pediatric experience is not required for agency staff.
There is a heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls.
Required skills include interpretation of dysrhythmias and use of rapid response teams.
Candidates must have experience with blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, and IV management.
Candidates should be familiar with managing cardiac drips, PCA pumps, and high flow nasal cannula.
Skills in interpreting arterial blood gases, tracheostomy management, and wound care are preferred.
Agency staff may float within units of equivalent or lower acuity levels.
Staffing ratios aim for 1:4-5 but may vary based on unit needs.
Weekend shifts are variable.
Current acute care experience is mandatory.
