Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical Oncology Duration: 16 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Hours Experience: Minimum 2 Years of Experience in Med/Surg License: Valid Nursing License Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Oncology experience preferred but not required. Med/Surg experience required. Experience with computerized charting systems. Description: The position involves providing care in a Medical Surgical Oncology unit. Oncology-related patient diagnoses include lymphoma, multiple myeloma, acute leukemias, chronic leukemias, and sickle cell disease. Additional diagnoses may involve other non-hematological cancers as well as benign hematological conditions. Special procedures include chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, and management of oncologic emergencies such as tumor lysis syndrome and cytokine release syndrome. There will be a heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention. The staffing ratio goal is 1:4, but can be adjusted to 1:5 based on unit needs. The schedule will require flexibility, with floating to other Med/Surg and Oncology units as necessary. Patient care will involve telemetry interpretation, rapid response team use, and administration of IV therapy and blood products. Central line care, infection control, and management of feeding tubes are also essential skills for this role. Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams including physical therapy, respiratory services, and pharmacy will be required. The unit maintains a daily census of approximately 31 patients with a capacity of 36 beds. Strong clinical skills and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment are essential for success in this role.
