Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical Oncology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years in acute care License: Active RN license Certifications: AHA BLS Must-Have: Oncology skills checklist Teaching hospital experience Description: The position is for a Registered Nurse in the Medical Surgical Oncology specialty. Shifts will be during the night, with various days of the week required. Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in acute care settings. First-timers are accepted, provided they have teaching hospital experience if this is their first travel assignment. Weekend shifts are required based on unit needs. Certification in Basic Life Support is required. The role does not require on-call duty. Travelers may need to float to meet facility needs and could be assigned to similar units based on requirements. The unit consists of 36 staffed beds. Charting is done using a specific electronic health record system. Nurse-to-patient ratios may vary based on staffing and unit needs. Candidates must be comfortable in environments with flexible staffing ratios. Scrub colors are navy. Special requirements include teaching hospital experience. The unit primarily cares for patients with known cancer diagnoses requiring surgical interventions. Nursing staff will assist patients in achieving specific post-operative milestones for discharge. Chemotherapy or biotherapy is not administered on this unit, so certification in those areas is not necessary. Care is tailored towards diagnoses and procedures related to the abdomen or pelvic area, including gynecologic, colorectal, pancreatic, liver, and stomach cancers. Nursing care involves collaboration with interdisciplinary support services. Specialty care is provided following surgical interventions needed to manage disease processes or complications. Educational resources will be available to support knowledge gaps regarding special precautions for procedures. Travelers are expected to complete facility-specific modules within the first week of assignment.
