Responsibilities include administering chemotherapy, managing ports, and monitoring side effects. The nurse will administer blood products and other therapies as needed. Patient and family education and support are key components of the role. The unit is a 17-bed pediatric specialty area that collaborates with an interdisciplinary team. The daily census averages around 16 patients. The position requires participation in the care of patients with various complex diagnoses, including stem cell transplants and high-risk malignancies. Weekend shifts are required every other weekend. The position supports children with sickle cell disease, metabolic disorders, and genetic conditions. Effective communication skills are essential for collaboration with health care teams. The candidate should be prepared to handle emergencies and provide timely care to patients with acute conditions. A strong understanding of pediatric oncology protocols and procedures is necessary. The role also involves ensuring compliance with safety and infection control policies. Flexibility and responsiveness to the needs of the unit are crucial for success.
