Description:
This position involves caring for patients on a MedSurg/Oncology unit.
The unit has 36 beds with a typical nurse to patient ratio of 1:5-6.
Common diagnoses include general MedSurg patients, post-operative cases such as laparoscopic cholecystectomy and appendectomy, and oncology patients experiencing complications such as infections and neutropenic precautions.
Nurses will administer medications, including chemotherapy for certified staff.
Required skills include the ability to read and interpret telemetry strips, as nurses will be expected to manage this responsibility.
The unit has a charge nurse available 24/7.
The night charge nurse does take patient assignments.
Certified Nursing Assistants are present on the unit, assisting nurses with patient care.
The unit utilizes CPAP and BiPAP; however, respiratory therapies are managed by respiratory therapists.
The schedule will consist of 12-hour shifts covering weekends as necessary.
This role may require participation in a holiday rotation with the permanent staff.
Travelers may be expected to float to other units as necessary.
Employees are required to adhere to the dress code of royal blue scrubs.
