Description:
Travelers will work on the oncology unit.
The oncology unit has 29 beds.
The ratios on the unit are 1:5, with occasional 1:6.
The charge nurse will operate out of the staffing grid, barring unusual circumstances.
Nurse aides are generally available, with 3 assigned per day.
Weekends are required every other weekend.
Holidays will rotate with the staff.
Scrub color is Caribbean Blue.
Central monitor telemetry is available, but reading strips is not a requirement.
Floating to medical acute units is rare.
There will be three days of floor-specific orientation provided.
Common diagnoses include acute oncology symptoms, thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, sickle cell crisis, hematology issues, oncology cases, and end-of-life care.
Patients from the outpatient area may come to the floor to complete their treatment if running late.
Cancellation policy requires 12 hours' notice every two weeks.
The charting system used is MEDITECH.
