Schedule / Job Type
Contract | Night Shift | 12-Hour Shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) | 3 weekends per 6-week schedule | Holiday rotation required
Key Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care for low- and high-risk OB patients and stable newborns at or above 36 weeks gestation in a Level 1 perinatal/nursery designated unit
- Perform newborn stabilization and serve as circulator for cesarean sections; hospital-provided scrubs required when caring for OR patients
- Titrate drips including Pitocin and Magnesium per unit protocols
- Monitor fetal heart rate strips using central fetal monitoring systems and respond to concerns in collaboration with providers; utilize Peri-gen 24/7 fetal monitoring surveillance
- Float as needed (0–3 shifts per week) to other units in a helping hands RN, sitter, or patient care technician capacity; no floating to inpatient Behavioral Health
- Participate in holiday rotation and on-call/standby during low-census shifts
Required Qualifications
- Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
- Required certifications: NRP, ACLS, BLS, and EFM
- Experience with newborn stabilization and circulating for cesarean sections
- Ability to titrate obstetric drips (Pitocin, Magnesium)
- Must comply with drug-free workplace policy and produce a negative drug screen for all panels
- Must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for standard contract rates
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Familiarity with Philips fetal monitoring systems, EPIC, and OBIX
- Experience caring for high-risk OB patients followed by Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM)
- Comfort operating RT equipment including Neopuff, heated high-flow nasal cannula, and CPAP for newborns
- Experience working in a unit following AWHONN staffing guidelines
