The RN provides care to these patients by utilizing the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, and financial and human resources within the philosophy of the institution. The RN performs all responsibilities and duties specific to the scope of service. They implement procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. The RN maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team. They complete initial assessments upon patient admission and develop appropriate plans of care in accordance with unit standards based on patient and family needs. The RN implements plans of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. Plans of care are modified based on continuous evaluation. The RN takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. They communicate with others directly and privately when necessary to resolve issues. The RN offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers and confers with colleagues to expand their knowledge base. They identify their own learning needs and take the initiative to begin appropriate solutions. The RN fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies. Department-specific job functions include performing patient assessments, providing infant care, completing all unit competencies, administering medications per physician orders, and documenting all care in electronic medical records. The position also requires signing up for required weekends and scheduling self for two Sunday night shifts per six-week schedule period.
