Description:
The Registered Nurse position provides quality nursing care for maternal and newborn patients.
The role involves cooperating with other professional staff to reflect the caring philosophy of the hospital.
The OB RN will also cross-train and care for Med Surg/EICU patients when needed.
Completes initial nursing histories and assesses patients' conditions.
Develops individual plans of care for assigned patients.
Triages patient care based on presenting or expressed symptoms.
Accurately administers medications.
Assesses labor progression.
Manages induction of labor and cervical ripening.
Deals competently with medical emergencies, including prolapsed cord, breech delivery, postpartum hemorrhage, precipitous delivery, uterine rupture, management of meconium, abruptio placenta, and placenta previa.
Performs and accurately interprets fetal heart monitoring.
Manages pregnancy-related concerns such as hypertension and diabetes.
Assesses the condition of newborns and recognizes situations requiring a higher level of care.
Performs neonatal resuscitation within the scope of practice and certification.
Recognizes and manages neonatal sepsis.
Monitors newborns for adverse events such as hypoglycemia, hypothermia, and jaundice, and intervenes appropriately.
Promotes patient education and involvement in the care of newborns.
Identifies and alerts the provider about patient status changes promptly.
Communicates effectively with the patient's care team.
Performs other duties as requested.
