Registered Nurse - Obstetrics (RN - OB)

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join our Obstetrics unit. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in labor, delivery, postpartum care, and the care of newborns, ensuring the highest quality of care for mothers and infants.

Shift and Schedule

• Night shifts with a length of 12 hours
• Guaranteed 36 hours per week
• Requires weekend availability (2 out of 3 weekends)

Job Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive care for patients in OB triage, labor and delivery, postpartum, well-newborn, and special care nursery.
• Perform necessary procedures including IV administration, administration of antibiotics, and short-term respiratory support.
• Attend vaginal deliveries and provide immediate care and resuscitation for newborns.
• Utilize computerized charting systems and fetal monitoring technology.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in obstetrics.
• Ability to interpret fetal monitor strips accurately.
• Experience in both labor and delivery as well as postpartum care.

Required Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

Unit Information

• 12-bed unit, primarily dedicated to obstetric care.
• Nurse to patient ratio: 1:2-3 mom/baby couplets; 1:2 early labor; 1:1 active labor; 1:3 post-op.
• Requires floating to the General Medical unit as needed based on census.

Orientation and Training

New hires will complete a comprehensive orientation program that includes a safety checklist, competency training for equipment, and system training. Orientation duration will depend on individual experience, typically ranging from 2 to 3 days.

Dress Code

Hospital-issued navy blue scrubs are provided.
