RN – Special Care Nursery (SCN) / NICU
Shift: Night Shift, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
Job Requirements
- Experience: 3–4 years of nursing experience, with at least 2 years in NICU or Special Care Nursery (SCN).
- Previous NICU or Level II SCN experience is required.
- Postpartum experience is preferred but not required.
- EMR: Cerner experience preferred but not required.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Care for neonates born at 32 weeks gestation and above.
- Assist with vaginal deliveries and cesarean sections.
- Provide care for neonates requiring growth and feeding support.
- Start neonatal IVs and assist with newborn care during deliveries.
- Administer surfactant via laryngeal mask airway (LMA) to appropriate candidates.
- Support the care of newborns requiring specialized nursery services.
Unit Details
- Special Care Nursery integrated with an 18-bed Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) unit.
- Six-bed SCN with an average census of 2–5 neonates.
- Approximately 8–9 RNs staffed per shift, including 2 RNs trained for SCN.
- Travelers may be asked to float to postpartum or pediatrics if needed. Floating is not expected to be frequent.
- Candidates without the appropriate postpartum or pediatric experience will provide supportive assistance only in those areas.
Ideal Candidate
An experienced NICU/SCN RN with strong neonatal assessment and care skills, delivery support experience, and the ability to care for neonates requiring specialized nursery services.
