Description: Provides unit-based leadership. Works collaboratively with the Nurse Manager, Director, Physicians, and staff. Supervises and directs the activities of various levels of nursing and ancillary personnel. Ensures all patients receive cost-effective, professional care that results in positive outcomes. Maintains the highest level of patient safety. Assesses and takes steps to improve the quality of patient experience. Initiates and coordinates individual and team conferences with health team members, patients, and families. Directs and monitors personnel in the performance of patient care activities. Participates in patient care as needed. Creates an environment of patient and family-centered care. Makes rounds to have an overview of patient care needs. Introduces self to patients and families. Solicits feedback on the quality of nursing services. Provides interventions and develops systems to address patient care across the continuum. Develops strategies with Nurse Manager and Director to improve customer satisfaction. Investigates and resolves patient care and operational issues. Recommends policy and procedure changes in collaboration with the Nurse Manager and Director. Ensures compliance with safety goals and hospital policies. Works with clinical team members to implement systems or staff development activities. Provides ongoing assessment of department operations for improvement opportunities. Facilitates data collection by staff members and participates in unit quality activities. Assesses staffing requirements on an ongoing basis. Manages assigned personnel based on patient needs and available skills. Assigns staff to patients and patient care activities accordingly. Arranges for staff relief for meals and breaks. Reviews and takes action on scheduling requests. Evaluates performance of unit employees. Coaches and disciplines personnel as needed. Directly involved in decisions regarding hiring and termination. Instructs new personnel on job duties and assignments. Ensures equipment is maintained in a safe and operational state. Facilitates the repair of any broken or malfunctioning equipment. Ensures cleanliness of the department. Keeps the Director informed of unit activities and special needs. Maintains staffing costs within the targeted budget. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
