NICU Travel Nurse Job Details

  • Unit Overview: 21-bed Level III NICU caring for neonates as young as 23 weeks

NICU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • At least 2.5–3 years of recent NICU nursing experience required
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the working state or an eligible compact-state license
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required
  • Recent experience with neonatal cooling, ventilators, JET ventilation, and oscillators required
  • Copy of nursing diploma or official transcript required
  • Strong knowledge of neonatal assessment, stabilization, resuscitation, and developmental care
  • Ability to work nights, every other weekend, and major holidays
  • Experience with PICC lines, umbilical lines, Medfusion pumps, and advanced neonatal equipment preferred
  • Ability to provide safe, compassionate neonatal patient care while collaborating effectively with families and the interdisciplinary team

NICU Registered Nurse Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill neonates in a Level III NICU
  • Perform ongoing neonatal assessments, identify changes in patient condition, and promptly escalate concerns
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized neonatal plans of care
  • Care for neonates receiving conventional ventilation, JET ventilation, oscillator support, and therapeutic cooling
  • Support neonatal resuscitation, stabilization, and emergency interventions according to current standards and unit protocols
  • Administer medications and therapies safely while monitoring effectiveness and potential complications
  • Manage equipment and therapies including Medfusion pumps, PICC lines, umbilical lines, incubators, and transport-related warming systems
  • Educate and support parents and families regarding infant care, treatment plans, discharge preparation, and follow-up needs
  • Collaborate with neonatologists, respiratory therapists, providers, and other members of the neonatal care team
  • Promote patient safety, infection prevention, privacy, and evidence-based neonatal nursing practice
  • Document assessments, interventions, patient responses, and care coordination accurately in the electronic health record
  • Float within appropriate neonatal care areas or nearby NICU settings when operationally needed
