Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a NICU position requiring a CA RN license and 5+ years of combined NICU/PICU/Peds critical care experience with float capability.

Details

• 13-week assignment in a Level III NICU serving as the home unit, with float requirements to PICU and Pediatrics
• NICU is a 22-bed Level III unit caring for preterm infants as young as 22+ weeks gestation, respiratory distress, hyperbili, IDM/poor feeders, failure to thrive, and hypoglycemia
• Focus on quiet developmental support for each infant
• PICU is an 8-bed Level II unit treating trauma, respiratory diagnoses, ingestions, and occasional surgical cases
• Pediatrics is a 24-bed general med/surg unit with an embedded Eating Disorder Stabilization Program and long-term EEG monitoring program
• Day shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00-19:00)
• Weekend requirement of 6 shifts per 6-week schedule, including major holiday blocks
• Epic EMR experience required
• 1:2 patient ratio

Requirements

• Active California RN license required in hand at time of submission; pending or temporary licenses not accepted
• Current BLS, NRP, and PALS certifications required
• RNC-NIC and CCRN certifications preferred
• Minimum 5 years of experience, combined from NICU, PICU, or Peds, with a strong NICU background required
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• Teaching hospital, community hospital, and Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Strong ICU skills required, including ventilator management, ABG interpretation, airway care, and respiratory support (BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, ETCO2 monitoring)
• Experience with IV therapy, central/PICC line management, and administration of blood products required
• Experience with pediatric dosage calculations and emergency medications required
• Two supervisor-level references required, from the applicable unit, dated within 1 year of start date or from most recent employer

Additional Information

• Provide critical care nursing support across NICU, PICU, and Pediatrics as needed based on facility float requirements
• Travelers are prioritized for floating assignments and must agree to float requirements prior to start
• Up to 16 hours of orientation modules may be required, varying by specialty
• Maximum RTO of 5 days, with no holiday RTO accepted
• No RTO permitted within the first week of the assignment
• Local candidates not accepted; candidates within 50 miles of the facility are considered local
• Former staff must be separated for at least 1 year before reapplying for travel positions
• Clinicians previously marked DNR from Rady's will not be considered due to the Rady Children's Health and CHOC merger
• Rehire eligibility for previously cancelled CHOC travelers must be reviewed by CHOC leadership
