Patient ratios include 1:3 for step-down patients and 1:5-6 for floor patients. Common diagnoses include neurosciences, deep brain stimulators, strokes, seizures, surgical/post-operative spines, and neurological disorders. Charge nurses are available 24/7. There are nurse aides on the unit, with ratios of 1:7-10. Respiratory therapy is available around the clock, and nurses are not required to have ventilator experience. Telemetry is present on the unit, but nurses are not responsible for reading strips; this is managed by monitor techs. Travelers may be required to work every other weekend or three weekend shifts per schedule. Holiday work is part of the traveler's responsibilities. Floating to other units may occur as needed. Scrub colors are a combination of white and royal blue. Charting is done using an EPIC system.
