Description:
The unit consists of 30 beds, with 22 for acute care and 8 for stepdown.
Patient ratios are 6:1 on the acute care side and 4:1 on the neuro stepdown side.
Staffing includes an RN charge overseeing the unit, 1-2 technicians, and a unit secretary.
Equipment on the acute care side includes vital sign machines, high flow oxygen, chest tubes, suction, and various drips for stroke care.
On the neuro stepdown side, equipment includes Vapotherm, Bipap, tracheostomy care, and titrating cardiac drips.
Documentation is done using the Meditech system.
Weekend shifts are required based on scheduling.
Experienced nurses may float to other units after orientation.
Patient engagement includes bedside shift reports, fostering personal connections, and daily huddles.
Most common procedures performed include lumbar punctures and chest tube placements.
Dressing in scrubs can be black, any shade of blue or grey, and any color scrubs on Fridays.
The unit offers recognition programs, including shout-out boards and employee of the month awards.
