Key Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care in a Neuro ICU setting within a comprehensive stroke center, managing a patient population that includes ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes (SAH), subdural hematomas, craniotomies, carotid stents and endarterectomies, aneurysm coiling and clipping, seizures, and myasthenia gravis
Manage and monitor external ventricular drains (EVDs), lumbar drains, Camino ICP monitoring, LICOX, NICOM, and Arctic Sun equipment
Administer continuous IV sedation, blood products, and manage ventilated patients
Perform CVA and acute stroke management, interpret and manage dysrhythmias, and maintain central line care
Maintain patient ratios of 2:1, with the ability to flex to 3:1 during high census periods
Float within or near the facility as needed and work every other weekend per unit requirements
Required Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years of experience specifically in a Neuro ICU setting — general ICU experience alone does not meet this requirement
Strong neuro critical care background with demonstrated experience managing stroke patients
Proficiency in ventilator management, IV starts, ICP monitoring, EVD and lumbar drain management, and post-neurosurgery care
Experience with isolation precautions and proper use of PPE
Active certifications: ACLS, BCLS, and NIH Stroke Scale
Active NC RN license or valid compact nursing license
Preferred Experience / Skills
Experience with arterial line management
Familiarity with unit systems including Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR communication framework
