The role requires an ability to float to other facilities as needed. Candidates must have a California RN License and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. AHA BLS and ACLS certifications are mandatory. Ideal candidates will have at least 2 years of nursing experience. Experience in Neuro ICU and Trauma ICU is preferred. Knowledge of NIHSS is preferred. The nurse must have skills in managing ports, arterial lines, blood product administration, and ventilated patients. Candidates will be responsible for the care of patients with acute strokes and neuro surgical cases. The nurse should be familiar with external ventricular drain management and post-neurosurgery care. Additional skills required include monitoring of cardiac drips and managing patients with multi-system organ dysfunction. The patient care ratio for days and nights will be 2 patients per nurse. Interdisciplinary support will include physical therapy and pharmacy services. The unit accommodates a high acuity patient population with a continuous flow of neurosurgical cases.
